Announcements and news for ISU Extension staff, Master Gardeners, and faculty

FLOWER AND PLANT FAIR

The Northeast Nebraska Master Gardeners will be hosting a flower and plant fair Saturday, April 28 from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM in the Cox Activities Center on the campus of Northeast Community College in Norfolk. Admission is free and there will be many vendors. Bluebird Nursery has offered a tremendous selection of plants to choose from in the past. Also, there will be three presentations on attracting birds, unique ponds, and All America Selections. The address of the activities center is 801 E. Benjamin Ave.

CVIDS IRIS AND DAYLILY SALE

CVIDS (Cedar Valley Iris and Daylily Society) will be having its spring sale Saturday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Vander Veer Park, Davenport, Iowa. There will be many named cultivars at reasonable prices. Proceeds purchase new plants for members to grow for sharing at future sales. Please tell your friends. The Park is located at 215 Central Park Ave.

CENTRAL GARDENS OF NORTH IOWA'S LECTURE SERIES

Educational opportunities abound with the Lecture Series fun, hands-on classes held each season. Pre-registration is needed in order to ensure adequate supplies and preparation by presenters. To register, call the Central Gardens’ office at (641) 357-0700.

Central Gardens’ members receive a Certificate good for one free Lecture Series class and discounts at all others during their membership year.

April 24 “Everything you want to know about Herbs, But don't have the Thyme”

Learn about growing herbs in your summer garden and using herbs for cooking and drying. Rita will share information on how to preserve herbs at the end of the season. Members $5, non-members $10.

HOW TO EXHIBIT FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES AT THE FAIR

Two Free Programs

Learn how to correctly show flowers and veggies at County and State Fair shows. Great for everyone--4-H’ers, FFA members, and the general public.

April 23, Flowers & Vegetables. James Romer, State MG Coordinator & Avid Gardener, will talk about display of flowers and vegetables. Useful growing tips will also be given.

May 15, Flower Arranging. A Boone Co. Florist will talk about flower arranging which will be a new class for the 2007 Boone County Fair Open Class Show.

Both programs are at 7 p.m. at the Boone County Comm. Bldg., Fairgrounds

Come to one program - or both! Even if you don't want to learn how to show, you can pick up display and growing tips for your own flowers.
