Learn about the commercial production of high value fruits, vegetables and other horticulture crops in high tunnels at Field Days at ISU Research and Demonstration Farms. These greenhouse-like structures are used to extend the production season and are much less expensive to construct and maintain than greenhouses. Specialists will also discuss marketing and a model for light processing. See tomatoes, cucumbers, and brambles growing in the high tunnels and learn about pest management, crop production, and production costs. More information and registration forms are available at: extension.iastate.edu/PME 2008 GARDEN CALENDAR CELEBRATES SESQUICENTENNIAL In honor of ISU's Sesquicentennial celebration -- and to mark 30 years of garden calendars -- the 2008 Extension Garden Calendar focuses on horticulture history at ISU. Each month features a short bio of an Iowan who helped shape and promote horticulture education. An illustrated timeline is included on the inside back cover along with a list of publications and resources. Copies will be for sale for $8 in the 4-H Building at the Iowa State Fair. CEDAR VALLEY IRIS AND DAYLILY SOCIETY CVIDS, the Cedar Valley Iris and Daylily Society, will be having their annual Daylily/ Iris Sale on Saturday, August 25, 2007. It will be at Riverside Gardens in Monticello, Iowa from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come tour the gardens and purchase some great plants.
