Dr. Donald Lewis has been the Professor in Charge of the Iowa Master Gardener program since 2001. After 6 years at the helm, he has decided to pursue other opportunities in the University. As of July 1, Dr. Cindy Haynes will be stepping into the role of Professor in Charge. No need to fear, Donald will still be around to provide sound entomological advice. We thank Donald for his great years of service and look forward to working with Cindy in the future. THANKS DONALD!!!!! The Warren County Master Gardeners and the Indianola Parks and Rec. are sponsoring "Think Spring Garden Seminar" at the Great Hall at Simpson College. The date is Saturday, February 24, 8:30 - 3:00. Speakers will be Marcia Leeper editor of "Garden Gate" Magazine, Elwynn Taylor, Professor of Ag Meteorology at Iowa State University and Kelly Norris of Rainbow Iris Farm. The garden's been harvested, the last blooms clipped and the tools stored for the winter. But it is not too early to start planning for spring's growing season! Iowa State University's Linn County Master Gardeners will hold their Winter Gardening Fair at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, February 24, 2007. Thirty-nine classes will be offered from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each session is $9.00. Dr. Lewis is responsible for Iowa’s Extension Urban Entomology programs. He provides university outreach education on insect pest management in the areas of home and commercial vegetable and fruit production, landscape plants, turfgrass, greenhouses, and household pests. Chad Blocklinger Chad is a foreman at 7 Bluffs Landscaping in Dubuque. He is a member of the American Hosta Society and Vice President of the Dubuque Regional Hosta Society. He is an avid hosta collector. Bob Hackbarth Bob is a gate saw operator at AY Mc Donald Ron Barkow Ron is a Dubuque County Master Gardener and a member of the Dubuque Herb Society. He has worked for over 30 years in the floral and gardening industry, currently working at Steve’s Ace Home and Garden. Bernie Curran Bernie is a very active member of the Dubuque County Extension Master Gardener Program. He is retired a executive, turned tree farmer. This has never happened in the long history of INLA and we are excited about sharing this wonderful event with a larger audience. The conference theme this year is “It’s a Jungle Out There” and promises to be both an educational and fun event. The Program Committee has arranged an interesting agenda for both consumers and professionals on Friday. Roy Diblik from Northwind Perennial Farm in Wisconsin will speak on Sustainable Landscaping. Roy is a co-founder of Northwind Farm and a leading regional expert in the field of perennial garden design.
