AWARD WINNING DISPLAY AVAILABLE FOR LOAN

What a deal! The award-winning Master Gardener display item is once again available to local Master Gardener groups for use in local parades, garden shows or other garden-related events. Of course we are talking about the Giant Sprinkling Can, emblazoned with the Master Gardener logo developed several years ago by the Mary Ann deVries, former Polk County Extension Master Gardener Coordinator, and the Polk County Master Gardeners. The sprinkling can stands about 8 feet tall and it even sprinkles. It is a sure-fire attention-getter wherever it appears. Need proof? See the photo of the sprinkling can on our web site at http://www.mastergardener.iastate.edu/

The Sprinkling Can was recently used in Woodbury County in a local parade and as a key element in the flower, lawn and garden show. It was a hit and attracted lots of attention.

All that is required to borrow the sprinkling can is a trailer on which to haul it. It is not heavy but it is bulky. It pulls easily but has a fair amount of wind resistance so top speeds on the interstate are not achievable. To arrange a loan contact Mary Ann deVries at 515/984-6506 or devriesma@yahoo.com.

CASS COUNTY EDIBLE LANDSCAPES PROGRAM

Have you ever wanted to get more out of your garden? You can, by landscaping with edible plants. Edible landscaping, especially when paired with sustainable gardening practices, can enhance any yard, garden, or landscape.

If you would like to learn more about edible landscaping, you will want to attend a presentation conducted by Dr. Eldon Everhart, Iowa State University Extension Horticulture Specialist. The program is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Cass County Community Center located at 805 West 10th Street in Atlantic (this is on the Cass County Fairgrounds).

Everhart will also provide you with a list of ISU Extension publications, books, magazine articles, and other helpful Internet links and other resources. Everhart will also provide lists of plants that do double duty and are also hardy and adapted to Iowa.

The Cass County Master Gardeners will provide refreshments following the presentation. Pre-registration is encouraged. Call the Cass County ISU Extension office at 712-243-1132 or send an email to jhering@iastate.edu
